Helena Ran the Skegness 10K in Aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Helena Bennett recently completed the Skegness 10K, which since launching has raised over £15,000 for a range of local charities. Organised by the Skegness Coasters, the event takes place on quiet roads in open countryside just outside the seaside town, making it a fun and scenic activity for people of all ages and abilities. Starting and ending at good old Butlins, the Skegness 10K follows a traffic-free route and sees large numbers of people taking part or cheering on the runners. In 2017, the £7,500 raised went to RNLI Skegness, whereas this year the profits were donated to the regional branch of The Royal British Legion, which provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community. The organisers of the Skegness 10K decided that this was the perfect cause for 2018, commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War. The charity continues to help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Reservists, veterans, and their families. R

We’re very excited to share news about a wonderful collaborative project between Bridgehead and our Diadeis team. Together they’re helping to raise funds and make improvements to an orphanage in Mauritius that’s home to dozens of abandoned children. Laura Crosby and Vicky Skelton from Bridgehead and Daniel Deverell from The Maltings (both based in Hull) are currently working on secondments in our Diadeis office in Mauritius. Whilst there they heard about an organisation, SOS Children’s Villages, which was asking for 100 volunteers to help paint the homes in a local orphanage. There are two SOS Children's Villages in Mauritius that care for around 113 abandoned and parentless children; this project focused on the one in Beau Bassin, which was established in 1992. Designed with attractive Créole architecture and situated close to the Balfour Garden, it’s an excellent arrangement that consists of nine family houses with the capacity to accommodate around 150 c

It’s hard to imagine, but every hour someone in the UK is told that they have Parkinson’s and is forced to face a life that is likely to become increasingly difficult as time progresses.  Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects 145,000 people in the UK, which is one adult in every 350. In fact, recent analysis  by Parkinson's UK suggests that this will rise by a fifth by 2025. People with Parkinson's don't have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the nerve cells that produce it have died. The three main symptoms that result are tremors, slower movement and muscle stiffness, which greatly reduce mobility and dexterity. I t can  also lead to insomnia, limited memory and mental health issues. Parkinson’s UK is a large charity that’s dedicated to offering friendship, support, expert information and advice to anyone who needs it. The organisation also funds ground-breaking research into the conditi
