You Can Donate to the Three Peaks Challenge
It’s
hard to imagine, but every hour someone in the UK is told that they have Parkinson’s and
is forced to face a life that is likely to become increasingly difficult as time
progresses.
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects
145,000 people in the UK, which is one adult in every 350. In fact, recent analysis by Parkinson's UK suggests that this will rise by a fifth by 2025.
People with Parkinson's don't have enough of the chemical dopamine because some of the nerve cells that produce it have died. The three main symptoms that result are tremors, slower movement and muscle stiffness, which greatly reduce mobility and dexterity. It can also lead to insomnia, limited memory and mental health issues.
Parkinson’s UK is a large charity that’s dedicated to offering friendship, support, expert information and advice to anyone who needs it. The organisation also funds ground-breaking research into the condition and leads key studies that aim to find a cure as soon as possible.
To
help Parkinson’s UK in its mission, 35 team members from our Bridgehead office
in Hull are preparing to take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. The route is 24 miles long and includes 5,200 feet of ascent, making it an impressive physical feat. With
29 of them staying in a barn and the other six camping under the stars, it's clear that they're taking this challenge very seriously.
The Bridgehead team will tackle the mighty Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours. This trio of peaks
forms part of the Pennine range and encircles the head of the valley of the River
Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Whilst the scenery is breath-taking
and we know they’ll have fun, this is by no means an easy undertaking and requires
plenty of strength, stamina, patience and commitment to complete.
Following
the completion of a recent 5K run in aid of charity, Bridgehead staff agreed to opt
for a much bigger event in 2019. They’ll be taking on the Three Peaks in June
and welcome any donations from fellow SGS Packaging Europe staff and the public through their JustGiving page.
Every penny raised will go straight to Parkinson’s UK to support the essential
research and care that it delivers on a daily basis.
There’s all kinds of charitable activity taking
place across SGS Packaging Europe’s offices, so keep up to date by following us
