Colleagues are Preparing for the Hull 10K and Half Marathon

Last summer, multiple team members from our Maltings, Bridgehead and Citadel offices took part in the fantastic Hull 10K and Half Marathon, raising £1,315 for their chosen charities by committing spare time and tons of effort to a fun and friendly fitness challenge.

This year’s double event takes place on Sunday 2nd June, which will once again see thousands of runners of all abilities hit the streets to beat their personal bests whilst fundraising for all kinds of worthy causes. The three organisations that our colleagues are fundraising for are Macmillan Cancer Research, The British Heart Foundation and William’s Fund.

JustGiving pages have been set up for anyone who wants to donate to Macmillan and BHF, and don’t forget to tick the box for Gift Aid too, as this will allow the charities to claim an additional 25% without you having to pay an extra penny. Meanwhile, donations to William’s Fund will be passed direct to the charity, so SGS Packaging Europe employees can hand their cash to any colleagues taking part in the run.

You can donate to all three charities if you wish, but if you’d rather just choose one here’s a little more info:

The British Heart Foundation supplies reliable information and valuable support to people who have been diagnosed with a condition, simultaneously funding research to “keep hearts beating and blood flowing”.

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest charities in the UK and provides specialist health care, information and financial support to those affected by cancer. With branches around the UK, including Hull and the East Riding, the charity makes a world of difference to countless individuals and their families.

William's Fund is part of Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds. This independent not-for-profit organisation is close to its target of £1 million, which will open up new opportunities for ground-breaking research into children’s cancer.

The Hull 10K and Half Marathon really are brilliantly organised, complete with a Race Office and an Event Village in Queen’s Gardens, a free baggage area for runners on Guildhall Road, first aid professionals at regular intervals, and bottled water stations supplied by the Asda Foundation at 2.5km, 7km and the finish line. Runners can even enjoy a massage following the event, plus live entertainment will create a fantastic atmosphere throughout the entire route. It’s worth checking out the Charity Village on the day too, where partner organisations will be available to have a chat about the crucial work that they deliver.

It’s also important to note that Aftershokz is the official headphone provider of Run For All events. They’re specially designed to sit comfortably in front of the ear and use bone conduction to deliver sound through the cheekbones to your inner ear. This means that you can enjoy your music and still hear everything around you, including marshal instructions, emergency vehicles and fellow competitors. Find out more about them here, as we don’t want any of our colleagues being disqualified just because they were listening to music on unofficial equipment!

As always, we’re immensely proud of our staff for being so committed to getting involved in community events and coming together to support worthy causes. Best of luck to everyone taking part and we’ll provide more updates closer to the event.
