Results from the Apprentices' Promise Auction
We’re sure you’ll have seen that the SGS apprentices at The
Maltings and Bridgehead have chosen four charities to support this year through
a range of exciting activity. The organisations that are benefitting from fundraising
events and community engagement are Hull Homeless Community Project, Yorkshire
Cancer Research, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and Aaron’s Battle, each of which
makes a huge difference to local lives on a daily basis.
To build up their fundraising pot, the apprentices came up with
the idea of holding a promise auction for fellow colleagues. This took place
via email, with staff noting which promise they wanted to bid on and the amount
they were prepared to offer.
The gifts and services that they could grab for the highest price
were truly unique. For instance, they could win personalised pyrography artwork
by Chloe Stamper (pictured above), homemade brownies lovingly baked by Holly Nicklas, a dozen
cupcakes made by Jade Howard, a makeover by Ellie Akam, a horse riding lesson delivered
by Nicola Ashton, dog walking sessions by Freya O’Neill-Gallagher and Ellie
Akam, and a charcoal drawing of a pet by Rebecca Tamminen (pictured below).
Other promises involved an apprentice carrying out daily tasks for the highest bidder, such as Ryan Day acting as a refreshment slave (making coffee/tea for a whole week), dinner collection by Alisha Jennings (saving multiple trips to the deli), and a personal shopper experience by Ewan Horsewood and Charlie Taylor, with the winner’s shopping delivered direct to their door.

And then there were a couple of promises that aided workflow, namely proof collection by Jayden Jay, and a whole two weeks of proof check by Louis Fields and Thomas Birch to enhance Quality Control.
Our employees can’t resist a bit of friendly competition, so the
bids that came flooding in were very generous. The lucky winners were:
- Adam Stephenson – Pyrography
- Sophie Thompson – Makeover
- Susan Tompkins – Charcoal drawing
- Neil Thompson – Cupcakes
- Neil Thompson’s Team – Proof collecting & QC
- John Clifton – Homemade brownies
- Jac De Groot – Refreshment slave
- Freya O’Neill-Gallagher – Personal shopper
- Nicola Ashton – Dog walking
Thanks to multiple
colleagues taking part, the apprentices raised £224.02 through this
innovative event that was enjoyable for everyone. Their GoFundMe page
has now reached £254 overall, which is over a quarter of its £1,000 target. If
you’d like to add a little to the pot as a gesture of goodwill, all donations
are greatly appreciated and will go directly to the four charities.
Ellie Akam, HR Support Apprentice, says: “I’m really
pleased with how the promise auction went. It’s not your average bake sale and
I think that’s why it was so successful; it was a fun way to raise a lot of
money. It was great for all who took part, including the apprentices,
converting their hobbies and talents into good use!”
Well done to our amazing apprentices and a huge thanks to everyone who got involved!
