The Apprentices are Holding an Auction for Charity

Our teams of apprentices at Bridgehead and The Maltings have been very busy developing their programme of activities in aid of four worthy causes. Together they’ve chosen to support Hull Homeless Community Project, Yorkshire Cancer Research, Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, and Aaron’s Cancer Battle through some highly innovative fundraising events.

In February they kicked everything off by making bags of sweets to sell during Valentine’s week, with all proceeds going to the charities. They’re also collecting a range of items that can go toward HHCP’s Move On project, which transforms empty houses into warm and welcoming homes for families transitioning from homelessness into independent living. You can contribute to this by popping an extra product in your trolley during your regular supermarket shop, then adding it to the collection. Recommended items are cleaning products, toiletries, nappies and baby food, plus any new paint and paintbrushes will be used during the renovation process.

Another fun idea that the apprentices came up with is an in-house auction, which invites SGS colleagues to bid on a variety of activities and services. From a horse riding lesson from a former member of the Junior British Showjumping team, to dog walking sessions and a set of coasters made with pyrography techniques, the money raised from the selling of these excellent gifts should significantly increase their fundraising total.

The auction will take place on Tuesday 19th March at Bridgehead and The Maltings. All bids will take place confidentially via email, with the highest bidders receiving their selected prizes. If you win, you can pay in cash or through a donation to the apprentices’ GoFundMe page, which also welcomes contributions in general from SGS employees, other businesses and the public.

“We wanted to do something a little bit different,” says Freya O’Neill-Gallagher, Trainee Account Manager at Bridgehead. “The auction includes all kinds of activities and services that could be a great gift for someone you know or a treat for yourself.”

We encourage as many SGS employees as possible to take part in this auction, as it’s a brilliant opportunity to support the four charities. Meanwhile, it comes with the thrill of potentially outbidding your colleagues and the satisfaction of taking home your prize if you win. In the meantime, get in touch with Freya at Bridgehead (if you’re not based there or work at a business that would like to donate a prize, please call the reception desk on 01482 225835).

We’re incredibly proud of our apprentices, as their passion and creativity perfectly reflect our company culture, simultaneously demonstrating that the next generation of industry professionals has everything required to take the company forward. Stay tuned to find out what else they have in store for 2019 – this is only the beginning of their ambitious and exciting programme of events!
