Hull Truck Theatre Presents Oliver with a Festive Twist

As is always the case, this year has flown by and Christmas is almost upon us. We love this time of year for all of the obvious reasons (who doesn’t enjoy a mince pie and plenty of Mariah Carey?), but it’s also fun thanks to the cultural activity that takes place, from craft markets to theatre shows.

With the latter in mind, we wanted to share news about Hull Truck Theatre celebrating the festive season by bringing the magic of Oliver Twist to its main stage. After last year’s immensely successful production of A Christmas Carol, a fresh version of the classic ghost story that attracted over 20,000 visitors, Hull's home of exceptional drama is delighted to present a new collaboration with playwright Deborah McAndrew.

Directed by Hull Truck Theatre’s Artistic Director, Mark Babych, Oliver Twist is a cheerful celebration of Christmas that combines traditional carols, folk songs and original music. Join young, orphaned Oliver on a wild adventure in this original adaptation of Charles Dickens’ much-loved novel.

Born in a workhouse. Sold into an apprenticeship. Recruited by Fagin’s band of pickpockets and thieves. We follow Oliver as he sinks into London’s grimy underworld on his search for a home, a family and love. Expect stunning sets, convincing costumes and first-rate performances in this mesmerising tale that has been a favourite since its original publication in the 1830s.

The production’s talented cast includes Flo Wilson, Claire Storey, Oghenekevwe Emefe, Lauryn Redding, Ian Jervis, Patrick Bridgman and Samuel Edward-Cook (who you may recognise as Danny Whizz-Bang in the first series of Peaky Blinders). The professional company will be joined by two teams of talented young performers drawn from the Hull Truck Youth Theatre and the Northern Academy of Performing Arts on Anlaby Road.

Running from Friday 30 November until Saturday 5 January, this is an unmissable opportunity to really get into the festive spirit and experience some locally created storytelling. Ticket prices range from £10 to £26 and can be purchased by calling the box office on 01482 323638 or via the Hull Truck Theatre website.

The show is recommended for children aged 7+ and is also perfect for adults, making it ideal for enjoying with the family, workmates or old friends. Thanks to the award-winning Shoot The Bull recently taking over the theatre’s bar, you can also grab a delicious street-food-style bite or even take advantage of their Dinner and a Show package.

If you go to see this fantastic production, make sure to tag in both Hull Truck Theatre and SGS Packaging Europe on your social media channels, as we'd love to hear what you think!
