Bridgehead is Collecting Gifts and Food for Dove House Hospice
The Listening Group at our Bridgehead office discusses numerous topics, giving team
members the opportunity to pitch ideas and organise exciting activity. This week they're
running a charity event for Dove House Hospice, which invites staff to bring in
any surplus items left over from Christmas.
Whilst it really is the thought that counts, people often receive
gifts that they simply won't use, or buy a little too much food that goes
against their New Year's resolution to keep fit and improve their diet. With
this in mind, you can donate all kinds of items to this collection, including:
- Unwanted
gifts, such as toiletry sets, new clothing, knick-knacks, and anything
else that can be given a new home
- Christmas goodies that are proving too tempting, like boxes of chocolates, biscuits, crackers, and other foods that's unopened and still in date
These items are being collected until Friday 25th January, when there will be a raffle and a treats buffet where staff can enjoy a little post-holiday indulgence. A donation bucket will be located next to the mouth-watering spread, with every coin added to it greatly appreciated by the organisers and the chosen charity. Meanwhile, the money raised from the raffle will also go to Dove House, with any remaining prizes donated to the hospice for it to either use or sell in its many charity shops.
Dove
House is a very important organisation for the city of Hull and the surrounding
area. The scope of services that its dedicated teams deliver on a daily basis
is truly impressive, revolving around the mission to “add life to days when days can’t be
added to life”. These services and initiatives include:
- Occupational therapy
- Consultant appointments
- Family support
- Complementary therapies
- Music therapy
- Outpatient clinics
- Physiotherapy
- The Amy Johnson Unit for therapies and treatments
- Hornsea Day Care, supporting patients who have been diagnosed with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, in Hornsea and the surrounding area
- The Exercise for Wellbeing group
- Hospice Neighbours, a new service that delivers hospice-inspired care to people who are struggling with social isolation and the everyday tasks that have become difficult for them
- An additional care home located in the beautiful Patrington Haven Holiday Park, offering serene views and relaxing activities
The organisation is also keen to bust myths that have arisen over the years, such as that it’s only for old people (it actually provides specialist care for anyone over the age of 18 who has been diagnosed with a non-curable, life-limiting illness). Another assumption is that it’s simply where people are sent to live out their final days; in fact, Dove House Hospice runs a Day Therapy Unit where up to 25 patients can benefit from therapies and tailored support. This ranges from an inpatient unit offering respite care so that families can take a short break from their responsibilities, all the way to psychological, physical, social and spiritual support for not only the residents, but also the people who look after them. You can even receive expert bereavement counselling from specialists based at Dove House Hospice, which plays a major role in recovering from the loss of a loved one.
We’re very proud of our
Bridgehead Listening Group and their decision to run this fun activity that will make a significant
difference to the lives of people in the local area. If you’d like to get
involved, make sure to bring in any
superfluous Christmas gifts before this Friday, then buy a raffle ticket (or several) and grab something delicious from the buffet.
