Comic Relief at Bridgehead

Our offices around the UK and Europe regularly take part in charitable activity, ranging from popular events to independent fundraising. This year for Comic Relief, the teams at Bridgehead got to together for a fun celebration in true Red Nose Day style.

Launched way back in 1988, Red Nose Day has become a British institution. Every donation goes toward supporting vulnerable people and communities in the UK and internationally, working to achieve the vision of creating a just world free from poverty. From child welfare and gender justice, to global mental health and the distribution of malaria treatment, it really is an exceptional charity that makes an enormous difference worldwide.

There are around 200 colleagues at our Bridgehead branch, so the atmosphere during an event like Comic Relief is always amazing. They decided to hold a cake day, inviting everyone to either bake something themselves or purchase sweet and savoury treats that are then sold in aid of the cause. Those who find the time to get busy in the kitchen are also entered into an SGS Bake Off, competing for the status of Best Baker.

Naturally, they were also encouraged to come to work in fancy dress, as nothing says Red Nose Day more than a crazy costume. This is always great fun because our colleagues are extremely creative, with outfits on the day ranging from Fred Flintstone to a Crayola crayon. Added to this were some bus stop quizzes that were charged at £1 a guess, adding further to the fundraising pot.

Our employees also love a little friendly competition, so their costumes and homemade bakes were fully assessed by independent adjudicators. The winners were:

Best Dressed Team
A tie between Team Brand (left) and Team Unilever (right), with the prize shared between the two

Fancy Dress
1st place joint prize – Stephanie & Mike (beard combo)
2nd place – Nikki Akam (dressed as Vicky Pollard from Little Britain)
3rd place – Helena Bennet (the inflatable guitar was an excellent touch)

Bake Off
1st Place – Cherry Bakewell
2nd Place – Chocolate Crisp
3rd Place – Coffee Cake

We’re very pleased to report that £185 was donated by Bridgehead to Comic Relief, going toward the incredible £63 million raised by the charity this year. Well done to everyone who took part!
