Match Report: Bridgehead v Maltings

Many of our colleagues love sports and fitness, so barely a day goes by when there isn’t some kind of physical activity or exciting event taking place.

Matthew Blenkin is an Accounts Payable Specialist at Bridgehead who loves football. Coming up with the idea to connect two sites in a friendly game, he got in touch with the Site Manager at The Maltings, Ash Bradford, and asked what he thought. Ash agreed that it would be good fun, so the two of them asked around their offices to see if enough people were interested in forming a couple of teams. Luckily, it wasn’t long before they had enough players for a 7-aside match.

There are quite a few places in Hull where you can hold a game of footie, so Matthew was spoilt for choice. In the end he and Ash decided that Sirius Academy West was the best option, as it has an excellent 3G pitch that’s well maintained and in excellent condition, not to mention available on an evening for a good price.

Taking place after work on Monday 11 March, the Bridgehead v Maltings match couldn’t have been a bigger success: “It was really good fun and the lads on both teams had great banter too,” says Matthew. “The only thing I would change is the score!”

Matthew says this because The Maltings scored an 8:3 victory against his beloved Bridgehead office: “They’ve won the bragging rights,” adds Matthew, “until next time at least!”

The event was a brilliant way to maintain team morale, as well as further improve working relationships between the two offices. Everyone really enjoyed getting together after a day’s work to let off some steam, keep fit and show off their football skills.

“James Grant from Bridgehead was the man of the match,” says Matthew. “He was a fantastic player and always at the heart of the action!”

Matthew also tells us that there were a few sore legs the following morning but everyone is very much looking to the next game, which is being planned for July.

The teams would like to thank Sirius Academy West for the fantastic facilities and they look forward to returning there for a highly-anticipated summer match.
