Career Insights: Nikki O'Donnell
Nikki
O’Donnell is a Project Manager within the Brand team at our Bridgehead office. We
caught up with her to find out more about her role at SGS and why she’d
recommend the company to anyone looking for a rewarding career that’s full of
opportunities to grow.
“As
part of my job I follow a design from artwork concept to printed film, which is
a highly detailed process. I sit on preproduction calls between the design
agency, printers, SGS and major customer stakeholders, as well as being
responsible for documenting and supplying the minutes afterwards. I then see
the lines going through with our specialists here at SGS all the way to print.”
We
also asked Nikki what she enjoys most about her day-to-day role: “I like the
customer feedback and love it when we receive positive messages. I also get
excited when I see the idea on supermarket shelves, having watched it go from a
concept to print and feeling the satisfaction when you spot your SKU on Coronation Street – yes, I am one of
those people who pauses the telly to take a picture and send it to the customer.”
Nikki
also recently joined the audit team, having successfully completed her first
audit. Meanwhile, as part of Team Brand, she makes sure to go to all of the
nights out that they hold, as it’s a great way to socialise and get to know her
colleagues better.
As
with any demanding role, there are challenges that pop up along the way: “For
me, the biggest challenge would be managing every customers’ unique
expectations. Once you can do that effectively, you can do anything.”
Thinking
about the future, Nikki hopes to remain on the Brand team, as she says that everything
it does is definitely moving in the right direction. Alongside this, she wants
to complete more audits, which ensure that every element of a project is given
exemplary attention to detail and delivered to the highest standard.
When
it comes to anyone who’s interested in a career at SGS, Nikki has this insight
to share: “Put simply, you go for it. We are market leaders and excellent at
what we do. The apprenticeship programme is amazing and offers hands-on
experience along with valuable qualifications.”
Outside
of work, Nikki has a 13-year-old daughter, who she says runs rings around her.
She also enjoys travelling and seeing more of the world, as well as playing a
role in her office’s regular fundraising activity. She recently took part in
Bridgehead’s Walk All Over Cancer event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK: “Walking
10,000 steps every day for a month when you have an office job is harder than
you might think!”
