You Can Still Donate to Jenny's Fundraisers

We’re very proud that numerous staff members from our Hull offices took part in last Sunday’s Hull 10K and Half Marathon. Running in aid of various charities, it was a fun and inspiring day that raised funds for some very worthy causes, both local and national.

One participant was Jenny Yardley, a Project Manager at The Maltings who has been with us for a year and a half. She’d never taken on a 10K before but this year decided to join her colleagues on behalf of two charities that are very close to her heart: Sight Support Hull & East Yorkshire and the Meningitis Research Foundation.

“Imagine losing your sight and not being able to see your son or daughter playing football,” says Jenny. “You miss seeing them score that dream goal and they have to tell you all the moves they are doing throughout the game. My mum has severe sight loss and lives on her own and every night I give her a phone call to check on her, but also let her know what's on the telly as she can’t read the TV guide.

“It's just the little things that we take for granted, like having someone read a food menu to you because you cannot see, not knowing which banknote you have in your hand, not being able to send a text message, not being able to share happy photos you have taken, not seeing subtitles on the TV. Until you have someone in your life lose their sight, you just don't realise what they miss out on.”

“Secondly, my husband Dean suffered from meningitis when he was younger and it still has an impact on his life today. Some sufferers of this terrible disease are not so lucky and don’t survive. More needs to be done to combat meningitis and one day wipe it out.”

Though the event has been and gone, you can still donate to Jenny’s fundraisers for Sight Support Hull & East Yorkshire and the Meningitis Research Foundation. Every additional pound will go straight to the charities, and don’t forget to click Gift Aid as this will mean that more money is raised for the organisations without costing you so much as an extra penny.

On behalf of all of us here at SGS, we’d like to congratulate our colleagues on taking part in the Hull 10K. Your dedication to supporting the local community and all kinds of not-for-profit organisations is what makes our company culture so rich and vibrant. Now it’s time to give those feet a rest, at least for a little while.
