Mark's Running the Doncaster 10K in Aid of Hull Animal Welfare
Mark Crane is
a QC Technician at The Maltings, based in the P&G Homecare department and has
been with the company for almost six years. He’ll soon be running the Doncaster
10K in aid of Hull Animal Welfare and has something special planned if he hits
his fundraising target.
“I’ve completed
numerous 10k runs in the past, including Hull, Laxton and Bridlington,” says
Mark. “I’m a massive animal lover and always have been, plus I own pets myself,
so I want to raise money for a local animal charity that doesn't get the same
amount of national funding as many others do.”
When Mark was deciding
which organisation to support, Hull Animal Welfare immediately sprung to mind. He
says that he has adopted pets from them in the past and also has friends and
relatives that did voluntary work when they were younger: “They are a fantastic
charity and do an amazing job in helping animals to find their forever homes,
as well as all the of hard work that goes into rescuing and rehabilitating
animals from terrible situations.”
Mark is
currently preparing for the event by switching his normal bodybuilding training
to incorporate more cardiovascular work, which includes early morning spin bike
sessions and running in the evenings. His mum will be joining him at the
Doncaster 10K, as she was the one who recommended the event to Mark in the
first place when he mentioned he’d like to do something for charity: “She a
member of Kingston Running Club, so she always finds out about lots of events
that are happening in Yorkshire.”
We asked Mark
what he believes the biggest challenge will be, either during training or at
the event: “I definitely think it will come on the day itself. I’ve completed
10k runs in the past so the distance shouldn't be a problem, but I’ve never
completed one wearing an all-in-one bodysuit and face mask, which I am
anticipating will make breathing more difficult. It's something I definitely
need to get used to before the day of the run.”
You may be wondering
what he’s referring to, and that’s where the special activity that we hinted at
earlier comes in – Mark will be donning his Spider-Man costume during the Doncaster
10K and has promised to wear it to work on Dress Down Friday if he achieves his
£200 fundraising goal. He says that none of his colleagues have seen it yet,
though he may have to do some training in it beforehand to get used to running
in a padded suit and mask.
“I’m really excited
for the day of the event as I think it will be great fun, but the thing I am
looking forward to most is being able to hand over the money that has been
kindly donated and the feeling that I was able to do something that will help a
fantastic cause.”
We can’t wait for Mark to send us some snaps of him running through Doncaster dressed as Spider-Man and having him come to work in the costume afterwards is going to be hilarious. We’ll make sure to share photos on our social media channels, and in the meantime you can donate to his fundraising pot on JustGiving.
